Netball Coach's Report
This has been a year of transition for the netball team. It started with losing our best shooter and team founder, Nicole Bryce who moved back to Oz last December, and then in January, just as we were getting started on the 2008 season, we lost our training and playing venue and struggled to find a replacement. This put a bit of a damper on our growth efforts, and effectively nullified the season. Thankfully, we were able to secure a new location, Velocity Sports Performance in Cool Springs and we have resumed training and are growing again.
As we prepare for the 2009 season, we have already found a number of new players who come to us from the world over, including Rachel Charlize (Australia), Deepa Patel (England), Bina Patel (England), and Kylie Harris (New Zealand). Long-time Roo fans may recognize Kylie as the one who has sung the national anthems at our footy games in the past! We are happy to report that Alan Denton (another Kiwi) has just moved back to Nashville permanently, rejoining us after playing for us in 2007 and that Elisa Enger (volunteer at the Golf Tournament) is joining as well. They join the existing squad led by Debbie Warner, Bethany Warner, Brydee Warner, Fiona Harrison, Jeff Persson, Evan Ling, Tai Logsdon and myself. Of course, we welcome any of the Rooboys who want to play in the football off-season and any of the wives, girlfirends, or other members who want to learn to play.
I will continue to lead our efforts to grow netball here in middle Tennessee at the same time as working to grow Netball America, which will hopefully promote the sport even more and allow the US to get national teams sent overseas. We are planning on four local teams in the 2009 Nashville Netball League starting in mid-January as well as travel to several tournaments. It is exciting to have the team growing again, and we are looking forward to the new season and being a part of the Nashville Kangaroos club in 2009.
Cheers
Moreen Logsdon
Coach, Nashville Netball Team
