Kangaroo Fans,

Well I hope everyone had a great holiday season and is off and running with 2009. The new year is about three weeks old now, and if if you are still on target with those new year's resolutions, good on ya!

The winter weather certainly has a grip on Nashville with the snow coming down and the temperatures well below freezing, but that does not mean that the Kangaroos have been hibernating. The board met in late November to set the strategy for 2009 and elect the club officers. Thanks so much for Mike Todd stepping up to take on the Treasurer role and for Grant White to continue as Secretary. And the rest of the board members "sentenced" me to another term as President. I will do my utmost to meet and exceed the expectations that have been entrusted to me.

Hopefully you have seen that we are again sponsoring the Nashville Zoo's 5K Run. The event is Saturday January 24th and we still need a few volunteers to come staff our booth and the water station during the run. If you are interested in running (or walking) to support the Zoo, there are still openings. We had a lot of fun recruiting and marketing the Kangaroos last year and this year should be no different. See the link below for the article and full details.

And don't forget, we will be celebrating Australia Day a bit early on January 24th (rather than the 26th), with our long-time sponsor, Sportsman's Grille in Hillsboro Village. After the Zoo Run, head home, get changed, and head back out and join the party at 7:30 pm. It will be a great way to catch up with your fellow Roos, talk extensively about the heroics of past seasons, and brag about accomplishments to be made this season.

For those who read our articles about Netball and are still wondering just what the heck we are talking about, hit the website for the wikipedia link, and then come out to our games. Yes, the Kangaroos Netball is back in 2009 with a winter league and a summer league not only planned but under way. Everyone is welcome. Don't worry if you have never played, most of us are in the same boat. Our goal is fun, fun, and a bit of exercise to stay healthy. Did I mention, we have fun?

The Kangaroos gained a little fame and notoriety recently when our own Marty Thompson wrote an article that got picked up by the Crow's website under "Crows Around the World" in which they profile Crows fans who are staying in touch. Marty gave the Roos a good plug. It's worth checking out.

We have been working hard on the football calendar for 2009 and while it is not set in stone yet, we have most of it worked out. We have been working on our cultural and social events as well, with several of them confirmed, but a few are still tentative. We went ahead and posted everything we have so far, but keep checking back as we expect to have all the dates confirmed by the end of the month.

We will go back to our normal first of the month publishing schedule starting in February. Meanwhile, we look forward to seeing everyone in 2009.

Cheers
